About Milk
I quit drinking cow's milk sometime last year. If you are interested to do your own research you'll read alot of negative things about it. I believe it you only drink a very small amount occasionally it's not bad, but if you drink it alot, it's probably not the best thing for you. Anyways, I've just decided that I am not drinking it and neither are my boys. They get calcium from other foods just fine and there are other milk alternatives that are so much better for you. I found this recipe for almond milk and simply love it:) For babies graduating from breastmilk to milk, some good alternative's are goat's milk and soy milk.

I'm sorry your boys were sick! That's no fun. I've made almond milk, and it's delicious. I haven't put vanilla in it, though. That's a good idea. I made raw muesli with almond milk for breakfast, and it was great!
Thanks for the recipe, I'll have to give it a try. I've been giving Maddox Whole Organic Milk, but not nearly as much as the Dr. said. She said 24 oz a day, but I've been only giving him 12 (4 oz in his oatmeal and 8 oz before bed). He eats tons of cheese and yogurt that I'm not concerned about him getting enough calcium. But, I'm definitely going to try to almond milk simply because of my concerns about cow's milk. Not sure if I'll cut cow's milk out completely, but I might supplement 50/50 and see how it goes.
I made the almond milk yesterday, it was really good! Next time I won't sweeten it so much, I don't think Maddox likes it that sweet. I'm not going to supplement whole milk completely because there are definitely some nutrients lacking in the almond milk. But, almonds are so good for us it's a great way to get almonds in him since he can't eat them raw or anything! I'll definitely make it again. I figured out that based upon the price of the almonds per pound (from Costco) and how much it makes, it's about equal to what I pay for a gallon of organic whole milk ($5).
